Getting started with your first Kettlebell Workout.

By far the most important kettlebell movement you will ever have to
learn and master is the Kettlebell Swing. If you only ever got good
at one movement then this is the one.

The Swing is based upon the deadlift movement pattern and so targets
the majority of muscles in the body. It's even great for shoulder
rehab and stability.

Lets start with the double handed swing:

1. Ensure that you snap your hips forward fully and squeeze your glutes
2. Actively sit your hips backwards in the downward phase
3. Keep your chest up and don't reach too far back with the kettlebell
4. Work on your timing

Here's a great workout to start with:

Double Handed Swing 20 seconds
Rest 10 Seconds
Repeat 8 times

You can use this workout no matter what level you are at just increase
the weight and really work on perfecting your technique.

Happy Swinging,

                                  Bruce

Everything you need to know about creatine.

What is the Best Form of Creatine to Take?
Nearly all studies on creatine supplementation have evaluated pharmacological grade creatine monohydrate in powder form or have used oral or intravenous phosphocreatine formulations (a more expensive form of creatine).

Since creatine has become a popular supplement, there are a number of different forms of creatine that have been marketed (e.g., creatine candy/bars, liquid creatine, creatine gum, creatine citrate, effervescent creatine, etc). Many of these forms of creatine claim to be better than creatine monohydrate. However, no data indicates that any of these forms of creatine increases creatine uptake to the muscle better than creatine monohydrate.

The only potential benefits of these different forms of creatine are convenience, supplement variety, and/or taste preferences. The greatest disadvantage, however, is that many of these supplements are more expensive than creatine monohydrate. There is absolutely no evidence that you can take less of these types of supplements (e.g., liquid creatine or effervescent creatine) and get the same benefits than ingesting higher amounts of creatine monohydrate because of less breakdown in the stomach, greater intestinal absorption, faster absorption in the blood, and/or greater muscle uptake.

Care should be taken to only purchase high quality creatine monohydrate that is produced in inspected facilities that adhere to FDA good manufacturing practice guidelines.

Welcome.

Almost everything on here is my opinion, whether it's right, wrong, educated, or foolish that decision is yours.

HOW LOW DO YOU GO

Seems to be the question I'm always asking people when they start bragging about squat numbers. As far as where to put the bar or how wide should your stance be, here's what I tell my clients: Don't force yourself into someone Else's squatting style with a completely different build and training background, slap on some light weights and try different bar positions and stances, whatever you need to find your groove that allows you to break parallel.Breaking parallel is a squat !!Anything above that is ALMOST a squat!!!Nothing bothers me more than to watch some clown pack 4 plates on the bar and drop down 4 inches and claim a 405 squat for a set of whatever..I see this time and time again in gyms all over.Full range of motion is what you should be going for in all your exercises.I squat deep, I like to know that I own the weight through the entire range of motion. Most people are afraid to bust parallel,as a result they get this fake squat weight. I've gotten client's with this problem. It's easy to fix but hard on the ego.Drop the weight back down to 135 and start all over through the entire range of motion.everyone whom I've fixed has great looking squats with real squat numbers, and are very grateful.Bar position and stance?Whatever gets you to below parallel. This is my rant on the squat. If your going to squat then squat otherwise get outta the way!!!!

PAK SAO

I read what I at first thought seemed a silly question especially coming from a JKD guy: "Should trapping be a part of JKD training"..Well of course it should, after all it is one of the 5 ways of attack and I've personally used HIA (hand immobilization attacks) in real street fights. I know trapping is very effective and needs to be second nature (not thought about, just responsive) !!So ,on the surface, this question seems silly.Should we as JKD practitioners spend large amounts of time on complex trapping ?I dont think it's necessary to get all Wing Chun with it but yes, I think it is necessary to practice HIA's !!! I follow behind a Pak Sao on most entries..
It is one of the 5 ways of attacks !
It should be simple, direct and effective !
Todays drill?? You guessed it :
Pak Sao to Striaght Blast to Double Leg.
