Seems to be the question I'm always asking people when they start bragging about squat numbers. As far as where to put the bar or how wide should your stance be, here's what I tell my clients: Don't force yourself into someone Else's squatting style with a completely different build and training background, slap on some light weights and try different bar positions and stances, whatever you need to find your groove that allows you to break parallel.Breaking parallel is a squat !!Anything above that is ALMOST a squat!!!Nothing bothers me more than to watch some clown pack 4 plates on the bar and drop down 4 inches and claim a 405 squat for a set of whatever..I see this time and time again in gyms all over.Full range of motion is what you should be going for in all your exercises.I squat deep, I like to know that I own the weight through the entire range of motion. Most people are afraid to bust parallel,as a result they get this fake squat weight. I've gotten client's with this problem. It's easy to fix but hard on the ego.Drop the weight back down to 135 and start all over through the entire range of motion.everyone whom I've fixed has great looking squats with real squat numbers, and are very grateful.Bar position and stance?Whatever gets you to below parallel. This is my rant on the squat. If your going to squat then squat otherwise get outta the way!!!!
